    Over the past three years, YUVA has worked to improve the education and hygiene of children involved in coal picking from mines in Ramgarh. They have successfully re-enrolled 1,312 children with nearly 90% retention. In the final phase of this grant, YUVA aims to make schooling more meaningful for students by focusing on teacher training, building the capacity of parents and by continuing to engage children in clubs.

    Training Awareness and Behaviour Change about Health and Rehabilitation Society (TAABAR)

    TAABAR works with children in need of care and protection. Since 2014 they have provided training to government departments and bodies and other key stakeholders to strengthen child protections mechanisms in Rajastan for children in contact with railways. This second phase grant will support TAABAR to continue its training programme and to expand team capacity to allow greater focus on field engagement at railway stations. TAABAR will continue to liaise with government departments to facilitate interdepartmental coordination and to move the policy agenda ahead.

    Sathiya Welfare Society (SWS) is a collective working towards the inclusion and participation of communities experiencing marginalisation in development processes. This grant will help set-up a sports centre that is gender and caste neutral. The programme aims to encourage inclusivity and to develop young people’s leadership and management skills.

    Over the past four years, women’s rights organisation Sangini Mahila Kalyan Samiti has worked to build and strengthen a collective of domestic workers and to ensure safety, dignity and appropriate wages for their members. In its final phase, this project will focus on developing a pool of leaders within the collective to take the organisation forward.

    Samarpan strives to improve the lives of children and to foster social equality. PHF supported Samarpan to examine marginalisation and exploitation issues in the villages surrounding the Domachanch mica mines. This research formed the basis of a comprehensive intervention plan and helped build the team’s capacity to use participatory tools to gain better knowledge of the communities’ needs. The second phase of this grant will continue Samarpan’s work to systematically address poverty in this community.

  • Diversifying product mix in women led enterprises in Dahod, Gujarat: Phase 2

    SAHAJ- An Organization for Women’s Development

    SAHAJ works with tribal artisans of eastern Gujarat and provides home-based livelihood opportunities to address the issue of migration. This subsequent phase of funding will support one year of design and product development and the set-up of a design department within the organisation.

    Safe Society focuses on improving the education, health and livelihoods of communities experiencing the most disadvantage in Uttar Pradesh. This grant supports phase two of a project that aims to strengthen the safety net for children in contact with railways in Gorakhpur by promoting the use of relevant government schemes, intervening with children and families, protecting and restoring new arrivals and working with restored children to ensure retention and rehabilitation.

  • Capacity building of Gram-Sabha members on Natural Resource Management plans, Amravati district: Phase 2

    Khoj – A Quest for Knowledge Hope Opportunity and Justice

    Khoj is a voluntary organisation that aims to develop youth voice and leadership in Melghat. During its first phase of support, Khoj worked in 13 villages to improve forest management and conservation, to develop plans to increase participation among women and to introduce the harvesting of sustainable, minor forest produce. This second phase of funding will support work in 23 villages to conserve forests and to encourage more women to take part, leading to sustainable production and increased incomes.

  • Capacity and Institution Building of CBOs from Excluded Communities: Phase 2

    Committed to promoting the development and protecting the rights of socially excluded communities, Jan Sahas worked to build the operational and financial capacities of six community-based organisations during their phase one grant. This second phase of funding will continue to support these efforts and help these organisations to develop clear, long term-plans in relation to particular socio-economic issues and to pilot local initiatives.

    Gramya Vikas Trust (GVT) works to sustainably improve livelihood opportunities for communities experiencing marginalisation. This final phase grant will support the systemising of a group of livelihood institutions as well as an associated Credit Cooperative Society by providing training, market links and connections with financial institutions to promote long-term sustainability. GVT will also support the constitution of four women’s federations as self-reliant organisations.
