Ensuring social security to seasonal migrant construction workers – phase three
Prayas
Prayas are a non-governmental organisation operating in a remote tribal area of Pratapgarh who have undertaken essential work on forest rights, minimum wage, bonded labour in agriculture, education and tribal identity. This is the third grant phase of the project which allows Prayas to continue promoting the wellbeing of migrant construction workers in the city of Ahmedabad by working with families who have migrated to improve their access to public services including education, early childhood care and healthcare.

Strengthening community organisations in urban areas – phase three
Muskaan
Muskaan work with people experiencing marginalisation in Bhopal. Previous phases of the grant supported Muskaan to develop an adult education offer for people experiencing disadvantage, work with the Pardhi tribal community to develop a cohort of leaders, and organise individuals to access rights and entitlements. In this third phase, Muskaan will continue to support tribal and minoritised communities, strengthen leadership and provide enhanced support to the Pardhi community.

Services for deafblind and multiple sensory impaired (MSI) people in Nagpur – phase two
Manav Vikas Bahuudheshiya Gramin Seva Sanstha
Manav Vikas Bahuudheshiya Gramin Seva Sanstha support people experiencing disadvantage to participate in decisions that impact their lives and the development of their communities. In its second phase, the project aims to expand work supporting the developmental needs of children with visual, hearing and multi-sensory impairments, by offering training to parents, carers and teachers in language and motor skill development, and by supplying assistive devices.

Community-led initiatives for preschool and primary education in Banda – phase two
Lokmitra
Lokmitra’s mission is to ensure that every child experiencing disadvantage completes elementary education to become a life-long learner and an empowered member of society. The second phase of this grant allows the organisation to strengthen their community-led initiatives to support pre-school and primary education in Banda.

Easing the strain of migrating tribal labour – phase three
Kotra Adivasi Sansthan
Kotra Adivasi Sansthan provides development services and support to tribal communities in the remote parts of the Udaipur and Sirohi districts. This project aims to support people who migrate to work in small industrial towns in western Rajasthan. The third phase of this grant will sustain work to strengthen labour and trade collectives, improve working conditions and enable access to legal aid, training, medical and other services.

Kalpavriksh Environment Action Group works between wildlife and biodiversity conservation policies and programmes, and the needs, livelihoods, use and access rights of local communities. The project consolidates previous work on community-led conservation through extensive research, documentation, networking, multi-actor consultations and outreach. It responds to international conservation agreements which call for inclusive conservation governance and co-existence in and outside of protected areas and the need for free prior-informed consent of local communities towards conservation and developmental goals.

Ek Kadam – developing women’s collectives (with an additional initiative on mental health) – phase two
Kadam Jan Vikas Sanstha
Kadam Jan Vikas Sanstha (KJVS) works to support and empower people experiencing social and economic disadvantage to develop sustainable livelihoods. The organisation also focuses on gender and women’s rights, children’s rights, education, public health and local self-governance. In its second phase, the programme continues to address the increase in cases of suicide for people aged 10–39 years in the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh, and identifies key learning and impact. KJVS continues to raise awareness, provide counselling, and direct people to relevant services, alongside their new mental health support helpline.

Community-based management and development of land under the Forest Rights Act – phase four
Jai Bharati Shiksha Kendra
Jai Bharati Shiksha Kendra (JBSK) supports tribal communities to help them access suitable livelihoods through the management of natural resources. This additional final year of support builds on their work to collectivise members of tribal communities at village, cluster and block levels to foster community-based management and development of land. JBSK will further develop their agenda to focus on institutional strengthening, empowering women and livelihood enhancement.

Reducing economic vulnerability of tribal households in Kamrup through integrated homestead and livestock farming (IHLF) – phase three
DiYA Foundation
DiYA Foundation supports communities experiencing marginalisation to access education, livelihood opportunities, rights, resources and information. This grant will continue to support DiYA to increase household incomes through an approach evolved in the first two phases, further strengthen and federate women’s collectives to take up social advocacy, and establish livelihood support systems through a group of 20 community-level experts.

Community mental health initiative – Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh Agricon Samiti
Chhattisgarh Agricon Samiti works to improve quality of life in rural and tribal areas of the region. Through this grant, the organisation will address the mental health issues observed in the community. The project will undertake an assessment, and prepare intervention plans for self-care, nutrition, social justice, family, groups, individual support, healthcare, and livelihoods. It will help the community to address adverse effects of climate change through assessment, training and capacity-building.

Small livestock for livelihood security in Korba, Chhattisgarh
Centre for Action Research and Management in Developing Attitudes Knowledge and Skills in Human Resources (CARMDAKSH)
The Centre for Action Research and Management in Developing Attitudes Knowledge and Skills in Human Resources (CARMDAKSH) is a civil society organisation that focuses on the empowerment of tribal women. This grant will help CARMDAKSH to develop a village-level support system to strengthen veterinary services, and to improve management knowledge, creating a primary and dependable source of income for local farming communities. They will also introduce an integrated approach to rearing livestock to meet both dietary and emergency financial needs during crisis and establish links with markets to improve prices.

Using culture to change gender norms
Breakthrough Trust
Breakthrough Trust aims to create an equal world by changing the way people see women and girls. This grant will support the organisation to engage with a network of content creators across cinema, digital, advertising and the media to make and disseminate content with a gender focus. The network will connect content creators directly with people who have worked extensively on gender issues in the region. By putting content that promotes gender equity into the mainstream, the project aims to shape mindsets and shift norms around issues like gender-based discrimination and patriarchal stereotypes.
